Whoever has lived it knows well

Whoever has lived it knows well

The Region of Valencia is WELL-KNOWN FOR ITS SUNNY DAYS AND ENDLESS BEACHES, BUT IT IS SO MUCH MORE THAN THIS…

It is gastronomy, culture, adventure and relaxation...

Feelings and emotions are hard to explain, they belong to those who have lived them.

We are going to try to explain it through the eyes of a writer who came here and learned about this land.

What is remarkable is that our visitor was born in 1562 and his testimony is one of the most beautiful love poems in history.

This is love

To faint, to dare, to feel rage,
rough, soft, liberal, elusive,
heartened, mortal, deceased, alive,
loyal, traitor, coward, engaged;

no relief or rest beyond what is sage,
to be happy, sad, humble, proud,
angry, valiant, fugitive,
satisfied, offended, wary;

flee from the face of disappointment,
drink poison as soft liqueur,
forget about gain, love the pain;

believe that heaven fits inside hell,
Whoever has lived it knows well

Why the poem?

This is a poem that Lope de Vega dedicated to love.

The poet wrote it in 1602, many years after he had lived in Valencia. And why shouldn’t we look for parallels between this passionate love described by Lope in these verses, and all the emotions we can experience in the Region of Valencia?

Let’s bridge all that time...
